That might have been decided at CCG level. Prescribing teams look at alternative drugs and get people to use cheaper ones where possible (when they do the same thing, of course). Obvuisly I've got no idea in your case, but it might explain it.

the local doctor in my area went missing for two years, she finally decided to return to the surgery in april. no idea how certain vulnerable people coped, but they/she clearly didn't give a shit

Same as a few others, almost impossible to get a face to face, just get mugged off by the rude receptionists. Changed my medication with out even seeing me? not sure how someone ive never met, can decide that i need a different medication, without checking blood, blood pressure, or any other. Just random, im taking you off this, and putting you on this? Tried to call her, and got a "Call back" could not understand a word she said!! Not racist, just plain non English speaking.

It's virtually impossible to get a face to face appointment at our local GP, although that's more to do with the town planners allowing thousands of new homes to be built in the borough without bothering to add any of the services needed to cope with them.

It's not a surprise they're ok I'm sleepy Somerset, ERN, sadly my experience mirrors that of Trundle.
Quite simply, we do not have the infrastructure in this country for the 'sudden' rise in population over the last couple of decades.

Trundle to be honest mate have been surprised how good they are, moved down here from greenich 7months ago to a village in somerset wss warned docs would be impossible to get into and would wait ages for appointment yet theyve been superb
